Have always liked City Boy. Spent hours and hours. Their first 3 albums are the best. In the tradition of Supertramp, Be Bop Deluxe, 10CC and Charlie. Check out Charlie if you appreciate obscure quality bands in this vein.

Why are you "surprised" that their "hit" was their least? That is true of all recording artists. The masses are not discriminating, the masses prefer what is simple, repetitious, and formulaic. Not only that, but for decades, the only songs that got played on the radio had to be less than 3 minutes. With a melody and lyrics that are not challenging and easy to remember. No surprise, no mystery there.
