Will the ten listeners who dont like this perhaps venture to state a reason? This performance seems an object lesson in how to phrase & also in true bel canto cantabile applied to German.

This recording is one of her earliest LP collections and is truly exquisite. To best of my memory she never sang it any of the recitals that I heard nor do I recall reading anywhere that she had an antipathy toward the song. She sang relatively little of Schubert but that was mainly because she felt that his songs should be sung by a man because of the test and on this point she was very consistent with only a few exceptions.

Quite simply the most beautiful and uplifting piece of music I have ever heard.
