Elliott Smith really helps us through the darker parts of our lives, and reminds us to look at each other, and ourselves with empathy. We love this song so much, we made a neo-soul / lofi hiphop inspired cover of it on our channel.
Elliotts blatant honesty is what always strikes me about him. He just happens to be one of the best singer songwriters the world has ever seen at the same time lol.
My little brother and I used to play this song when we’d jam. Me on the piano and we would both sing. We loved it because it talked about being held by drugs. I lost him last year to the same drugs. “It’s the only part of your life you’re keeping together” miss you so much man. Gonna go cover this now for you.
To the people romanticizing his death: There’s nothing “beautiful” about how he died. It was horrible. He was suffering. You shouldn’t make mental illness/suicide sound like it’s beautiful. It’s very sad and there’s nothing “romantic” about it. It’s also a bad influence on kids/teenagers to say this stuff. I’m a teenager myself, and social media is romanticizing mental health problems ALL THE TIME. This has caused me to not want to get better because I believed that people found my problems attractive. Just be careful what you say.
