One of my favorites from my childhood days.

this is a very peculiar song, it almost feels like a novelty record given the outlandishness of the title... is there a story behind this, was it following some trend of the era, was it a part of a sub-genre? please educate me on the wild goose

I read on the Society for American Baseball Research biography of Eddie Waitkus that he sang this song in the Phillies shower after a Phillies win.

I have finally figured out that this tune is from the Finnish folk song later known as levan polkka.

Hearing this song by the great Frankie Laine when I was a boy of 8 instilled in me the desire to wander. I was lucky enough to get a job that took me all over the world to more than a dozen countries. Only after 9/11 when it became such a hassle to fly did I finally rid myself of my obsession.
