I caught Kenny Garrett at the MIM in Phoenix, Az. , back on 06/25/18. He and his band were fantastic! This performance in DC, 2 months earlier, typifies what I heard at The Musical Instrument Museum on that June evening. The interplay between Kenny and pianist Vernell Brown, during their duet, was superb. Of course, extended alto sax solo was what one audience member stated after the show "Improvisation Beyond Words". The man knows how to build up to a crescendo, then DROP down into "Absolute Silence", then Roar back like lion!! What a talented group.
