Gerald Alston and the manhattans are one of the greatest R&B groups of all time. A great story. I’m from Jersey City and my kids were in a private school and they have the annual Christmas show and in the back of the room is no other than Gerald Alston. It turns out his wife is a teacher and his son goes to this school, so I approach him and tell him what a huge fan I am and how many times I was listening to his music while scoring with the ladies and he got a kick out of that. The topper of the evening is when Gerald got up and sang at the school Christmas show. I would see him at every Christmas and spring show for the next several years and I couldn’t believe I was talking to this guy who’s music I listened too religiously in my youth. What a gentleman.
