My girlfriend at the time ( early 70s) and I were in Central Park playing hooky. We were sitting on a little blanket we had brought when a lanky long haired dude in a suede fringe jacket carrying a guitar sat down in the grass not far away. We were smoking a joint and he looked up and asked if he could get a hit. We pulled our blanket over and shared our joint with him while he serenaded us. He introduced himself as Tommy...nothing more. After about 5 minutes I recognized him from a Deep Purple show some months prior. Such humility. Ritchie Blackmore had nothing on Tommy and Tommy was a way nicer guy.
