I first heard this song when I lived in Mongolia, serving in the Peace Corps. The lyrics “you better bring your own sun” meant SO much to me, because it fit my situation —- I had to think positive in order to adjust to a different culture. “There is a magic world parallel, so leave your daily hell” —- those lyrics also struck a personal chord with me, as it, too, was very appropriate for my situation. Even though Mongolia isn’t England, this song got me through it.
God, I LOVE this song. It reminds me of when I served in the Peace Corps in Mongolia. It (and Midwinter Graces) came out that year (the year Michael Jackson died), and my family sent me this album. I was alone and living in a Mongolian yurt in an isolated village, the only American there, and although I loved the experience, I was terrified, lonely, trying to adjust to the customs and the language and the food and the insanely harsh weather, and I was completely outside of my comfort zone. “You gotta bring your own sun” and “Leave your daily hell” really spoke volumes to me. A lot of people hate this album (and Midwinter Graces), but those 2 albums kept me so very sane when I was in such an incredibly insane place and situation. I will always think of Mongolia when I hear these 2 albums, and I will always have nothing but love in my heart for the beautiful people who live there. I miss Mongolia very badly.
