The guys who really saw combat never talk about. I worked with a guy who was so very quiet all the time. He would talk if you asked him something But he was just a very quiet person very nice but quiet. So one day I asked him what he did in the war. Al what did you do in the war. Very quietly he said " I was a torpedo man on the Silversides". Yes he was he was a submariner. They have to be quiet and have steel nerves al was a Chicago Police Officer I never forgot him or another officer named Gus who was on a 40 milimeter Pom Pom Anti aircraft gun when it was hit by a Japanese bomb. He showed me scars on his arms from that experience. Again another quiet guy. I was a lot younger and wanted to know these things.

Somehow seems appropriate right now, in March 2020, with the coronavirus pandemic and what is happening all over the world.
