This folk song was terrible in the 1933 version (way too nasal). The 1937 version by Georgia Turner was better. And this one is an improvement. And then we got the Animals version in 1964 which updated it to the electric ⚡ era.
the origins of this song are said to be from the 1890s ...gold miners from the west and riverboat workers have changed, added and deleted whole verses..... long before Woody Guthrie, The Animals or Dylan
Just to think that most the folk songs come from the working class inspiration, reflecting our way to see life, the clamor for justice and plain rebellion should make those songs the present renewed hits of the revolting people against the capitalist system.A propaganda of change.
