People need to remember that this is Phil Collins, drummer of Genesis and NOT Phil Collins, solo artist. This is way before that was even a thought. Considering the songs where a drummer was given a lead vocal opportunity, like Ringo (Yellow Submarine), or Terry Bozzio (I`m So Cute), I`d say this is rather freakin` brilliant.
